A 29-year-old man from the Melbourne suburb of Mentone was rushed to Alfred Hospital by paramedics after suffering critical head injuries during the brawl.

A homicide squad is investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.

A 26-year-old Highton man was arrested and charged by police on Sunday for recklessly causing injury.

He was given bail and is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 31.

A 29-year-old Colac man was also arrested by police but was later released pending further enquiries.        

The investigation is ongoing.
